I have been planning this 'homage via crown' since i first saw the trailer of "The Grand Budapest Hotel" last year. I have been a Wes Anderson fan since Rushmore and I am now the proud owner of The Wes Anderson Collection by Matt Zoller Seitz.
Im working my way through the book and have watched Matt's analysis of Anderson's films which outlines the influences that shaped Rushmore, The Royal Tannenbaums, The Fantastic Mr Fox and the rest. As a result, I have a much greater appreciation of not just Wes but of Orson Welles, Francois Truffaut and Bill Melendez, among others. It's also a reminder that everything is a remix and in the right hands and through an adoring heart, what came before can turn into new, transformative, "original" art.
It's a beautiful thing.
If you feel like it, check out our Wes Anderson Pinterest board. It is filled with other fan art and stuff.
